Thumbs up Meeting people you admire

I met someone I admire today. A guy who runs a tuning shop in my town, he's built NZ's fastest 4 cylinder (a 9.5 sec Evo III) as well as Australasias fastest Lancer GSR (around 11 seconds, street driven). He came to my work to discuss business, although I only said a few words to him I thought it was kinda cool, I hold him in very high regard. Oh, his name is Andre Simon, he's a legend in the NZ drag racing scene.

Anyway, I'm not trying to sound like a groupie, because that's not what I am. I just have a great deal of respect for this guy and thought it was cool that I met someone I've heard a lot about and whose work I have an insane amount of respect for.

Who else has met someone they really admire? Who was it and why do you admire them? Oh, and where/how did you meet them?

Met Greg Minnaar when still living in SA, he's a professional mountain biker, only South African to really make it on the pro MTB tour and he's won the World Cup too!

Met Mark and Steve Waugh when the Aussie cricket team toured SA year ago too, those guys are some impressive cricketers!

Met Jerry Rice this past January at the Marriot in SF. This was right before the AFC championship game. I've watched him play his entire career & have to say that not only is he the best receiver to ever play the game, he's also one of the most down-to-earth "pro athletes/celebrities" I've ever met.

i met George Chuvalo, the champion boxer. the hard times he went through, and still managed to come through in one piece, makes me admire him.

and i met Kosuke Kida, the owner/president of Signal Auto tuning house in Japan. he started the company all by himself, in a little shop on the corner of the street, and turned it into one of the biggest, most well known Japanese-car tuning-houses in the world, who happen to build some of the most bad-ass machines as well. i aspire to do the same thing someday, so in this he has inspired me. all that, and he's not conceited. even though i couldn't openly talk to him (his english was very limited), he was still an incredibly nice, down to earth guy, and if i ever meet him again, i hope an interpreter is near-by, because to have an actual conversation with him would just rock.

Re: Meeting people you admire

Had lunch with the chief executive of a huge global company. That may sound sad to some but he was an extremely capable and friendly man, in charge of a $150bn company and raking the millions in each year. That's where i wanna end up so i have a lot of respect and admiration for someone like that

About fifteen years ago I met the greatest basketball player who ever lived - Wilt Chamberlain. I alway admired how hard he worked on the court. The rules of the game were changed because of the things he could do.

At Jamboree I was sitting in the Online pit area and also in Ronnie lim's. (Australia and NZ's fastest front wheel drive drag racers respectively. Met Troy Campbell when he managed a club on the GC and became mates, and also had a beer or (7? 8?) with the HOT HOT lil brit blonde from Coupling.
