Re: Crazy New Law

Apprently its also cheaper in Australia to ban people from driving and cram lots of advertising down thier throuts than it is to simply teach them to drive.

What a dumb ass way to do a study. Of course keeping kids off the roads on Friday and Saturday nights will reduce the number of deaths. Take everyone off the road and there won’t be any driving deaths at all.

I'm not crazy about these laws; however, I don't give a shit about the kids who want to test the limits and kill themselves. Its their life; feel free. But, its the people that are endangered by others' stupidity that is a concern for politicians. I don't blame them, just think if it were your mother driving her Cadillac, or minivan, or whatever, being slammed by some teenager who wanted to drive fast. People really shouldn't be so selfish.

In a popular, wealthy downtown area here in the suburbs of chicago. Supposdley it is illegal to "cruise" meaning passing the same street more than three times.
I dont know about if the plates have restriction...but i pay for my liscense, i pay for plates and i pay my taxes for the streets, if i want to drive up and down the same street until i run out of gas, than fill up and drive some more, than i will.

Cops think they have all the power in the world.

Re: Crazy New Law

Lets face it, if they cant drive fast on a Friday night, they'll do it on Monday near midday to get their fix.

The report also found that restricting L- and P-plate drivers to only one passenger could reduce the crash rate by between seven and 42 per cent.
There was a law put into effect in my province a few months ago regarding this comment. It has always been like that for L, but just recently they added that restriction to N (P). It seems to me that people are more likely to speed and race if they're on the road with their friends, rather then in a car crammed full of their friends. Time will tell.

Regarding the weekend ban, people will just do it on another night. It would be a wast of resources to try and enforce that.

we have laws like that in Massachusetts, but nobody really follows them...for months on end, friends would drive places with other people in the car right after they got their liscenses......i wonder how they'd enforce that rule.....plus i'd rather speed with people not in my car....less weight=faster!!!!!

I don't think so. People simply won't slap the plates on. I certainly haven't in the last 18 months - and because I drive like a normal human being there hasn't been any problem. The one time I was pulled over "Sorry officer. Must have forgot this morning after my Mum used the car. They're on the back seat. I'll put them on now" And not a problem.

Here are some thoughts from Rep.

The proposed restrictions on driving for inexperienced drivers is there to try to reduce fatalities and injuries involving these drivers. Currently, New Zealand has restrictions on when provisional licence holders can drive, how many passengers they may have in the car and what is effectively a zero blood alcohol limit. All aimed at trying to reduce the very high statistical relationship between injury and fatal accidents involving this group.

The whole licencing system is intended to try and have some basic level of competency for drivers on the road - in the interest of the drivers, their passengers and other users of the road in what is effectively a incredibly lethal weapon.

Earlier this year, there was a tragic accident involving a provisional licenceholder who was significantly over the legal limit for a fully licenced driver, driving an unroadworthy vehicle with passengers. The driver lost control on a country road and all were killed. The parents of the driver thought that the police weren't doing their job by not stopping the driver from driving rather than looking at how they allowed their child to drive in those circumstances.

Rep is not fully endorsing the constabulary - Rep has had more than a few run-ins with the lads in blue as some of you know. But sometimes you have to infringe on peoples rights to protect them from their own worst enemy themselves...
