Battle of the beasts

What would win?

An '02 Skyline R34 GT-R or a '99 3000GT VR-4. (Both Stock)

They both are heavier than most cars. They both have twin turbo. The R34 has AWD and the 3000GT has 4WD.

I personally think the R34 would win.

The Skyline would be the winner in the race but the loser in a style comparision. The VR4 is also AWD not 4WD.

I wouldn't call them beasts, but they are a fair comparison I suppose.

Re: Battle of the beasts

yeah the vr-4 has a huge weight disadvantage with mild power advantage. i'd say skyline would come out on top.
and yogs i've read a bunch of your posts, you really hate the skyline's styling don't you? i think they have a nice, aggressive look to them, but looks are subjective.

Yeah - I think the Skyline has a very poor look to it. I'd rather have a stylish car that can compete with most anything then something a bit faster that looks like a shoe box on steriods.

Yea. Skyline's nothing phenomenal to look at. The VR-4 would get a real nice view of the back of the Skyline. Skyline has about 280ish hp at the crank, but I read an artical in Turbo Magazine (7 or 8 of '03, I think) where they dynoed a stock R34. It actually had much more hp at the WHEELS then is factory quoted at the CRANK. Don't remember specific numbers off hand, but it was something like 310whp.

Well that's what you are gonna get...b/c I havent seen the VR4's do amazing in actual races...ie Australian Touring car series or JGTC...

The VR4 is not a ugly car...it's very nice looking...but the weight just sucks man...admit that much...if it weighed 3200 lbs it would be a beast of a car...and probably would have gotten a better name against it's competition of the Supra, 300ZX TT, RX7

The VR4 is a brick.

VR4: 3800lbs
(http://allacher.net/3000gt/index.html)

----------------
Mk IV Supra Turbo: 3620 (www.i-supra.com)

1992 300ZX TT: 3474 (www.z32.org)

RX7TT: 2888 (http://www.rx7uknet.dircon.co.uk/rx7_fd3s_6.html)

GTR-R34 Skyline: 3388 for the R34, 3432 for the R34 V-Spec. (www.motorex.net)

The Supra was a lot heavier then I thought it was prior to doing this little info scavenger hunt.

yeah skyline would win that race, depending on the year,
the 99vr4 vs the skyline would actually be a good race, i've seen both cars 1/4mile times and they are pretty much exact, all around 13.5 area

I didn’t realize that the ‘magazine’ times were that close. I thought the Skyline would be faster in the quarter mile then that. I am going to have to revise my appraisal of the Skyline downward. I’m sure it’ll beat the VR4 from a roll, but it looks like off the line, its going to take at least the quarter mile and then some to catch up. All the while still looking like crap.

I know the weight of the VR4 is high. I never claimed it to be light. I’ve also never claimed it to be the fastest out there. I do claim that it is the best looking. That’s why I own a couple of them (if you think the VR4 is heavy – you should see the VR4 Spyder).

As for the VR4 getting raped. Please. Given that their times are so close – it’s a drivers race through the quarter and then some. At high speeds the Skyline will be king, but the VR4 is hardly standing still.

I don’t like mod comparisons because there is always another mod that can be done.

Re: Battle of the beasts

okay, as everyone knows, the 3000GT is a big boy, so that means on the track, turns are gonna be a bitch. yes, it has AWD, but that sucker weighs 1.5tons! the R34 is a lightweight compared to that!

What's the engine name for the 3000GT? If you just mention RB26 to any real car man they know what your talking about.(skyline's full name is RB26DETT)

Those specs are incorrect, youngvr4. I don't know where you got them, but the weight I found is different (and not just by a little, either) and the 0-60 time is different. Go to Motorex.net. All these people deal with are Skylines. They know their stuff. It is much faster then your stats let on. The real 0-60 time is 4.7 seconds. That's almost painfully fast. The VR4 would be seeing little more than the Skyline's tailights.
