leaky rear hatch on 89 cherokee
this is likely a common problem: i get major dampness and wet on the rear right side of my old truck. when you open the rear hatch, it is wet back there. i bought some weather sealer stripping and was about to place it horizontally along the bottom, but feel it may need doing more so along the top.
thoughts, suggestions, rude comments? Mmo |

I have the same problem with my '88 Pioneer. I haven't fixed it yet but I'm pretty sure the leak is due to the washer fluid tube interfering with the weatherstripping on the passenger side. I recently ordered all new weatherstripping. I couldn't find it from anyone but the Jeep dealer who charged 48.50 per door ... ouch. The hatch weatherstripping is about 58.00 and hasn't come in yet.

my 1990 cherokee has the same issue...soggy carpet...i wish i had a solution other than keeping anything back there on a tarp...good luck!

May or may not help you, got a 1991 Cherokee that had the same problem (actually rotted out the back had to put fiberglass to repair). Anyway, I found that water was coming in through the rear wiper cover since my Jeep doesn't have a rear wiper. I popped the cover out, cleaned it up, placed sealant around the cover and popped it back in, no more water. Hope that's it.
