My 2000 X SE, Automatic has started making a clicking noise coming from the center shifter console. The clicking occurs when the brake pedal is pressed and the key is in the run position. (Clicks once when pedal is pressed, then clicks again when pedal is released)
I'm sure it has something to do with a saftey lock that required the brake pedal to be pressed when the car is shifted out of park. My problem is that there is an audiable noise that wasn't there before. Any ideas on what busted or whats going on? Thanks! |

There is a solenoid that locks the trans shift lever when the brake is not depressed. Under normal circumstances it is virtually inaudible. It sounds like yours is getting ready to need replacement.

Mine has made that noise for as long as I can remember, maybe since it was new. My wife had a Nissan Sentra that did it too. I thought it was normal.

Re: Clicking (relay) noise in automatic console
Mine is audible at times too. I wouldn't really be concerned.
