ITR / CTR cams
Hi all,
I am currently the owner of an Civic EE9 with a B16A1 150 hp engine fitted in it. I want to upgrade the power a little for street use, so I already fitted an air intake and soon I want to buy 2 1/2" exhaust. The next step will be an Apax'i V-AFC II, bored throttle body and cams. But I got some questions about the cams. Since it's used for street I want reliable cams and decided to go ITR or CTR. But is there a difference in JDM ITR cams or EDM/USDM ITR cams? After searching I also find out the exhaust cams are the same but the intake CTR cames are open 3 degrees longer, so this would be the ideal choice I guess? But now comes the next question, over some time (read 1-2 years) I want to buy an Integra, and passing over the cams was my idea. What if I fit the CTR intake cam in the Integra, will this increase hp ass well, or do the stock ITR cams run better??? Since Honda is not stupid, that's why I am wondering why Honda gave the intake cam of an Integra 3 degrees less duration... Thnx for the input Ciao |

Re: ITR / CTR cams
The CTR and the ITR 00-01 intake cam are the same. You don't need a VAFC II, as it is designed to work on OBD IIb motors, just get a VAFC. Also get a ITR or Skunk2 intake manifold to help out the cams.

Ok so the CTR cams and ITR cams '00-'01 are the same...
Well maybe I am gonna buy an 98-99 Integra, so then switching the intake cam for a CTR cam is a possibility... Still strange why Honda put intake cams in the 98-99 Integra's with less duration, I think it would be a lot easier and cheaper for them to put the same CTR cams in the Integra directly... Less R&D costs etc.. The VAFC II designed to work with OBD 2... Could you please explain to me what this direct means for me when I fit it to my OBD0 engine? Some features don't work or is it something else? Also when switching to OBD2 cars later it's good to have an VAFC II already isn't it? Last question, when fitting type R cams I heard it's good to place the innersprings from the intake side also to the exhaust valves since in stock form only 1 spring for each valve is present there. Do you know if it's just "plug & play" so just buy the springs remove the stock retainers and place the extra springs, or do you need to do some machining or something like that first? Tnx for the info! Ciao |
