we should throw in the new dodge ram srt-10, cuz that'd throw things into high gear. 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Have you ever heard of a truck that can match a vette in 0-60? I'm lovin it

(Im pretty dissappointed that Chevy didnt step up to the plate and stomp Ford and Dodge like they should and have shown they could. I mean seriously who would show a Shortbed/Regular cab version of the SS with 395 HP N/A, five link suspension, a 485 HP N/A beast of a V8 ...and a bunch of other goodies, not to mention considerably lighter than both the lightning and the dodge, and handling that any car would be envious of, and then they just bring out that pansy SS that they got now!??) |

Re: Trucks
At the syty nats, in 100 degree heat/90% humidity, my 100k mi stock Ty ran 14.1. BUT, 60' times were 1.7x sec.
Stock Sy ran 13.5, 1.6 sec 60'. In better conditions, I've run 1/2 sec quicker, and seen Syclones go 13.1. Of course, many modded Sy/Tys are in the 10s (and perfectly streetable, with a/c, electric windows, full leather interior intact), and a very few in the 9's (not real streetable) Top end is not their strong suit, but that 1st few seconds has proven demoralizing for anything i've ever encountered on the street. "You know you are a Sy/Ty addict if you will race a Mclaren F1 from a standing start, but won't race a Lightning on the freeway"

that new srt-10 is a waste of gas, 4.9 seconds is easily beat by a stock syclone or typhoon, rolling in at 4.6 and this is done with half the engine, the dodge viper engine in the srt-10 is a monsterous 8.3 litre engine, and the syclone with a whopping 4.3 litre, its got half the engine, and it will out accelerate a mclaren f1 from 0-30. sure the srt-10 tops out 20mph faster but thats no big deal, slightly different top end gearing will solve that in a second. no doubt the srt-10 is awesome, it just guzzles gas like mad compared to the syclone. and with a few slight cheap mods, the syclone will run in the low 10's withought losing its street legality... and it was still cheaper than both the srt-10 and the lightning... it was an awesome vehicle!

out accelerate a mclaren? Are you kidding me? You're seriously comparing a truck to a 1.25 million dollar car? The gearing on a truck vs the mclaren is so different that you can't compare that reasonably. The trucks shift around 30, whereas the mclaren's at about 60 where it hits second. The 4.9second 0-60 time is the dodge number for the srt-10 truck's time. It's obviously off because it's factory numbers. We'll see when independent tests come out how the dodge fairs. But we also have to look at torque and hp numbers vs weight ratios. The dodge has a wider torque curve than the others and I want to see the cornering comparisons. I'll bet the dodge takes those extra years of technology and puts them to good use beating the ty and sy. and anyone that thinks the srt-10 is not a valid component of this discussion needs to pull their head out of their ass.

) who cares? who races to 30 mph? and by the time you get to 60, the McLaren is long gone.As for comparing to exotic cars, that works out better in reality than it does in print. The press intro for the Syclone consisted of a dragrace between a Sy and a Ferrari (no, not a McLaren, but the hottest exotic of its day). The Sy won, repeatedly. I think Ferrari owners worldwide heard about that! To this day, if I pull up next to a Ferrari owner at a lite, he slumps down in his seat and pretends not to notice me. Nothing is more fun than busting the chops of exotic, sports car, muscle car and sports import owners with my lowly 'truck' (built to haul only one thing.... a$$!)! As for the Dodge; Ford and Dodge (and Jeep, and Subaru) have been trying to take the SyTy crown away for over 10 years now... it's about time someone got it right! In addition to power and weight, you can't ignore traction. AWD is the hole card that allows me to disgrace cars with better power-to-weight ratios. On the street, with cold tires, and a less-than-pro driver, the SyTy always has a chance! That's why we WILL race the McLaren. If the McLaren driver smokes his tires or bogs the engine, He'll be looking a an ugly old truck tailgate in a heartbeat. Very discouraging if you just spent a megabuck for your car. If he gets the launch right, I get stomped.... But I have a great time watching the McLaren do its stuff! Oh, and remember, us SyTy guys have has 10 years to fiddle with performance mods. Stock = 13s. Stock + $1000 = 12s. Stock + $3000 = 11s. Stock + $4000 = 10s. Don't count on that little black truck next to you being stock....... Oh, yeah... the stock Sy outruns every stock 'Vette ever made (yes, even the ZR1) except the new Z06 to 60 mph. So you COULD say I've heard of that before, yes.
