shifter bushings/dust cover/what???

i'm puttin in my short throw today, and i was told to get rid of the play in the shifter to get new polyurethene bushings. where can i get those in town? and also, i went to advanced and autozone and they don't show any bushings for the shifter, is there another name? in my chilton's it looks like the bushings are inside the shifter at the bottom, but i would think the play would come from the rubber boot thing that goes around the pivot point, called (in the chilton's) a change lever dust boot (B), so is that what i should be asking for?

You should be looking for the bushings in the bottom of the shifter. Changing those to polyurethane is the same as when you do it on motor mounts. It will make it stiffer therefore more precise.

How about ordering the bushings from Summit Racing? Im not sure of any auto parts stores that will stock them. They are actually torque rod(shift stabilizer bar)
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...S%2D16%2D1102R - available in red or black

red arrow's indicate placement.

Re: Re: shifter bushings/dust cover/what???

yeah all that came with my shifter was the shifter that had the bearings and all in it, and two brass rings, that i'm guessing act as spacers so i don't overtighten it. i'm glad i finally got a visual of which part i'm looking for, thanks a million jackasssi, are there any other bushings or anything that will keep my shifter nice and firm?

Re: Re: Re: shifter bushings/dust cover/what???

The only other bushings I am aware of came from B&M & they are a solid bushing. For some reason I think they dont make them anymore, but not sure. I drove a car with the solid bushings & it sucked IMO, I prefer the poly.

If you do install the poly, make sure they are clean & lubed very well before installing.
