help (asap): timing belt
hi folks:
here i come again w/ a problem; my timing belt broke on the highway (and i tried to restart it a couple of times); i took the valve cover off and pressed the timing belt w/ a screwdriver, and, guess what, i moves v easily the timing belt or part of it is on the cam sprocket. now, maybe you could answer a couple of questions (thanks) - first, do i need to change the valves (some parts store clerks say yes); - second, is there a simple way to check that the valves are Ok w/o taking the head off (such as rotate the cranckshaft w/ the racket lots of turns -- say two -- to make sure that all valves are activated and listen for any funny noises); - third, if i take the head off, any good place i could get the valves, springs, etc; i live in MD (see below); - fourth, is there a simple way to take some screws out (the left screw in the upper timing belt cover is almost innaccessible, unless i take an engine mount off); - fifth, any words of wisdom ;-) - sixth, if there is an FAQ on how to do this yourself, pls point me to that; thanks. my del sol is a 93 SI (1.6 L engine) ay 140K miles, is stick shift, and i live in Gaithersburg, MD. Thanks a lot; pls post here (and/or send me email at: [email protected]). Neko |
