Gas mileage

Im just wondering what octane is premium gas required for the gsr. Also with the i/h/e will the gas milage drop just with regular driving, not pushing to the limit? Since the air intake is increased Im guessing so will the gas, anyone know by how much? Does the gas mileage decrease with the addition of a turbo or nitrous? Im new to preformance tuning, so thanks to all for your help.

premium gas is considered to be 91 - 93 octane. higher than that is usually race gas and would be overkill for a low-mod engine. Your best bet is to go with 91.

As far as the gas mileage, your car from the factory will average about 25mpg or so depending on driving habits. when you increase your intake and exhaust air flow, you increase your engine's ability to breath, and therefore increase (slightly) your gas mileage. When your engine doesn't have to work as hard to do its job, then the efficiency goes up.

If you were to turbo or supercharge your car, your gas mileage goes down quite a bit because now it has to work harder. With a supercharger, your motor has to turn a pulley to build boost, and therefore it has to work harder than it used to. With a turbo, the exhaust gasses aren't exactly flowing out of the car that fast, because the turbo needs them to spool. Since there is a new draw on your engine to create power to make power, it needs to work harder to do its job.

91 GS (completely stock) gets 27 MPG with normal driving.
I doubt anyone on this forum is capable of 'normal' driving, even for five minutes...which is why 25 mpg is more realistic.

PS-With no modifications, Honda recommends using the cheap gas, about 86 to 88 octane. Many of their cars came with this recommendation in the owner's manual and on a little sticker inside the fuel door. Having said that, the GSR probably does need higher octane. I use the 91 (93 is not available in New Mexico) anyway, just because the car seems to run better and go up the hills easier with the good stuff.

i think i'm gonna disagree with your super/turbo remark. If your car is F/I, then yo don't have to push the car as much to get it to the speeds you want as compared to your non-F/I car. But if you are F/I you are probably driving a lot crazier so your milage=toilet

Actually with a boosted engine regardless of how it's boosted the mileage is decreased. This is because the sole pupose of boost is to force the engine to use more air and gas. More gas less mileage (obviously). If you found a way to make your engine use the same amount of gas the engine would die pretty shortly since the air/fuel would be so lean. So elitefreke is correct. While the pull of the boost does take the mileage down because of the work, but is mainly because the engine if forced into using more gas per stroke. Also still have the owners manual on my 90 Integ LS recommends 91 octane for anything but granny driving (not quite worded like that but that's the principle behind what it is say) so just go 91 it won't hurt anything. Oh and my car get 25.45 mpg with some calm and crazy mixed into a tank.

i had a 93 ls and i got 24-25mpg all day long driving like a bat out of hell.
