944 Turbo S
I want to know what potential this car has since I want to mod it up if I buy it. I am also thinking of buying the E36 M3 if not this.

the question is how much modding do you need to do to a 10k dollar car that'll go 0-60 right at 5 seconds and top out at over 160 MPH, not to mention having a perfect 50/50 weight distribution... i've heard this car called the best handling production car ever made lots of times...

Re: 944 Turbo S
Well what are the mods, not maintanance parts, that I can do to the Turbo S to make it faster or better handling. Also I want to add a body kit if there are any that are made for it.

Re: Re: 944 Turbo S
I think 0-60 is 5.4, but anyways, I found this chip kit that has DME and KLR Chips. A boost controller and a 3.0 Fuel Pressure regulator. Are those the stock chips on the Turbo S or will this be a good upgrade?
All I want to do is Chip, Intake, Exhaust, Boost COntroller. Then I will try to put on coilovers and sway bars and I'm done. Only thing I don't like is the back of the car. The M3 looks so nice but the front on this car is nice. I just don't like the rear. Are there any body kits for this car? Thanks.

hell yeah
I'm saving up to do the same thig you want to...
I think the chip would be an awsome upgrade... i have heard people putting chips in 944 and adding 25-30 hp... I would also suggest getting a turbo timer as well... since your probably going to be running higher boost, and much more horse, the turbo timer will help stop any damage the higher boost will make. I also suggest upgrading the breaks and new lower profile shocks and struts (so you don't bounce around if your planning on lowering it a lot). I have found some rear conversions available also..... I also think the rear was the only thing porsche could have made much better with the 944... http://www.estrictlyforeign.com/asp/...gory=1&ID=1091 http://www.fiberwerks.com/Fiberwerks_944.htm http://www.porscha.co.uk/944_rear_ha...th_spoiler.htm here are some body kit providers... hope you like em! |

Hi all. This is my first post here. Just found this board by accident.
Well, where to start... My first question to you is what kind of power are you looking for? Also, is this going to be a track car or a daily driver? These questions will help determine what kind of modifications you might want/need. As far as what's already been suggested... A turbo timer is not needed... the car comes with one from the factory. With just chips alone from Guru Racing (GuruRacing.net) you will be in the 240-250 RWHP range with an '88 turbo S / '89 Turbo. The first upgrade you should consider is a dual port waste gate like the Tial 38mm and boost controller (preferably electronic such as a Greddy Profec-B... that's what I'm using and it's dead accurate). The waste gates in these cars are almost 15 years old and tend to not hold boost to redline. The difference will be night and day. STAY AWAY FROM 9X AUTO!!! There have been a lot of people ripped off by this place. For some good vendors check out : www.speedforceracing.com www.lindseyracing.com www.vitesseracing.com http://home.earthlink.net/~enhancement944/ And last but not least, civic lights will not fit.

Re: 944 Turbo S
The best modification I have seen for the rear of a 944 is to graft a 968 rear end on in it's place (lights and all). This is a major PITA, but if done right looks really good. The best place to find a 968 rear end is at a porsche salvage yard like 20th Street Auto or Parts Heaven.

By the way, when you try to flip someone off... get the spacing right.

There are many upgrade options for every aspect of teh 944 turbo. Yuo can build the engine to make 500hp, the suspension to hold 1.0+ Gs on the skidpad and run rings around factory supercars.
Just a matter of how much you're willing to spend.
