Model identification
Hi can anyone tell me how to identify a specific model id you don't have the paperwork. For example how can I tell if a 1997 7 Series "E38" is a "sport" or not?
Thanks |

Re: Model identification
If you are comparing it to the 99+ "sports" then it isn't. The 99+ sports have a different suspension, transmission, torque converter, seats, steering wheel, sway bars and the trim. There is probably more but that gives you the general idea. This is only for the 740i version the iL version is a cosmetic sport. If you check edmunds.com they probably have info on the options available for the 97s.

Below are two links to sites that will decode the VIN for you. One is BMW specific and requires only the last 7 digits (of a BMW car) and the other is for any vehicle and requires the full VIN.
