Scratch-building a model car?

First Time Here. I would like to scratch-build a model car. It can be a regular car, regular truck, or regular van. Jeffrey.

Sure you would like to scratchbuild a whole car. Good luck on that one. I'd suggest you buy a kit you're interested in and build it. You'll probably enjoy the hobby a little more (I know I couldn't take styrene and make it look like an actual car). Welcome to AF I guess.

Welcome to AF! Sounds like you have quite the project ahead you. Totally scatchbuilding a model car is a big undertaking. Do you have a lot of experience?

Re: Scratch-building a model car?

I need drawings or plans for scratch-building a car with working parts in a large scale (1:12 or 1:8). Jeffrey.

Buy a factory repair manual. It's got everything about a particular car.
What are you working on?

Sorry I don't have details where I got this from to give full credit. I think I got it off of AF one time...

Working 1/4 scale Viper V10. Don't get a whole lot better than that...

Why don't you find an existing model with dimentions close to the vehicle you want to reproduce and modify it to replicate what you want to build (example:'55 Chevy hardtop converted to a '55 or '56 Buick). Whatever you do, make sure you have PLENTY of reference material and form a solid "plan of attack" before you cut the first peice of plastic.

When you're finished with the body, maybe you can sell the pattern to a good resin caster to offset the cost of your project as well as a couple of copies of your hard work.

By the way what are you wanting to build?

When I search the Internet for drawings of cars using Google or Yahoo, which key words should I enter? Jeffrey.
