Fuel Mileage Question
My v6 camaro is getting about 140-160 for a full tank of gas, i know that others get upwards of 300 miles per tank of gas. I've ehard that this could be a problem wiht the fuel filter? Anyone maybe got a def. answer for me, and if it is the fuel filter, where is that located, and would i have to have someone change that for me and wats the pricings on something like that. Thanks -chris

can't offer any help. But I got a friend that claims he gets about 30mpg on a 6 speed ls1. Is that possible? (for anyone else who views this)

well when i bought my 97 3.8L the guy that sold it to me claimed that i would get 40 miles per gallon. but im canadian and i dont even know how much a gallon is so i told my dad and he thought that was really good milage. but it doesnt really seem to have that great of gas milage at all... anyways, i replaced my fuel filter a little while ago, but my mechanic couldnt do it himself because it was too hard to get at (no hoist or anything). so when i had to bring my car in to get the tranny dropped and fix the rear main seal on my oil pan i just got them to put the filter in at the same time. it only costs about $15-20 but i couldnt tell you exactly where it is and how to replace it. try picking up a repair manual, itll tell you everything you need to know about fixing your camaro

Youngsta... something just sounds odd with that. A fuel filter should NOT be that hard to replace. I did it in my driveway in 20 minutes, that includes jacking the car up with a floor jack, lowering it, and taking a smoke break in between. As far as your mileage... I've got an LS1 Z28 and on the highway, I see 400 miles on a tank easy. How big is your gas tank? I would assume the same size. If so, you've got some kind of serious problem. How's it running?

well, getting 160 a tank is extremely bad, especially since its only a v6, i found out where the fuel filter is, but considering i'm 16, with no working on cars experience, i'm not even gunna think of replacing it. I jsut ahd one of my oxygen sensors replaced but before that even went bad i was getting the bad mileage. the car sometimes from behind smells like its burning too much fuel, but not 3-4 times as much, also, i do tend to get on it quite often, but that cant hurt me by over 250 miles to a tank

Well if you're "getting on it" then you'd be burning a LOT more gas than driving like the normal person. Are you the original owner? If so, did you properly break the car in? It'll make a difference. If all else fails, try putting some of that fuel cleaner additive and see if it doesn't help you out. Here's where I go for my additives (for ANYTHING), use th emenu to find what you need. They're expensive, but also the very best you can get.
Hope that helps. http://store.advancedfluidsolutions....Brake&id=brake

To address several things here:
It's not hard at all to get 30 mpg with an LS1 with a six speed. Gears 5 and 6 are both overdrive gears, letting me do 80 mph at 1750-1800 rpms. So at 70, the engines barely turning... As for a 3.4/3.8L 4th Gen V6 getting 40 mpg, I think not. Whoever told you that was full of shit. I just hope that you didn't buy it for that matter only. You'll see mileage similar to the V8's provided both don't race stoplight to stoplight all the time. A fuel filter will affect your driving abilities. It will decrease your hp slightly when dirty, so I would assume that it would affect your gas mileage too. I don't know, however, if it would affect it as drastically as yours is being affect. You're getting about 10 mpg, and that's not right at all. Something else is slurping your gas down big time... Also, 1 gallon = 3.784 liters...
