Hi I have a 2000 dodge grand carvan sport. I notice the other day that my steering was getting harder. And so I ask my hubby to check the power steering fluid. It was only a little low, but he still filled it anyways. And then today I took it out, and I notice that I can make left turns without any problems. But every time I try to make a right turn, I had to fight the steering wheel. I could barely get it to turn, and when it did turn it was very wide. No matter if I try to turn the wheel before I even start my right turn. Any ideas of what this can be. The van doesn't have many miles on it just under 36, 000 miles. The regular 3 yrs warranty ran out. But when I bought the van I had bought a 6 yr or 100,000 miles extended warranty. I bought the van in June 2002 with only 31,000 miles on it. Would this be consider cover under the extended warranty. I am not sure of all this stuff. What about the horn would that be cover by the extended warranty. My horn been not working for a long time. I don't like to drive my van especially when I have two young children. I want this to be safe and not get stranded somewhere. And I bought the extended warranty to protect me from getting stuck with high paying expenses. Which I don't have the funds to pay for this kind of stuff now. And hope someone can help me so I don't get stuck paying for something that I shouldn't be paying for. Many people think they can take advantage of a woman who knows nothing about cars. I hope I am not sounding dumb here. Just want to be prepared when I take the van in for repairs. And let them walk over me and take me for a ride. Thanks Robin

Does it make any noise when you turn the steering wheel? It's Odd that is it is only when you make a right... but it could be the power steering pump...!
Either case it should be covered by the extended warranty you bought.

Hi I took the van in this morning. And they call me back and said the steering rack and pinning needs to be completly replace. What is this and how much does it cost. They check into my extended warranty and I have no deductible which this was one of things covered. thank god for extended warrantys. And even check to see if the extended warranty for my horn. And since they check the horn is bad they are replaciing that as well. I have to wait until tomorrow to get my van back. Told them go ahead and do a oil change. What would happen if I would of continue to drive in this bad condtion. This van has very low mileage just under 36,000 miles for a 2000 dodge grand caravan sport.

Re: HELP! Trouble making right turns!
I would read your extended warrenty but most are just for your powertrain, motor, trans, sometimes cv joints. It should detail your deductable and coverage on the form.
Your steering would just become much worse and that would not be a good thing. check the fuse, or horn relay, and yes a rack and pinion can cause hard steerig binding more on one side. Dealers always overcharge. Take it into a reputable front end and tire place. An aftermarket or rebuild rack will be much cheaper. A second opinion is aways good. ***Just to cheer you up, you can always plan your route turning left only. Good luck, Wayne C.A |
