Dual Exhaust

Hey all, i was wondering if anyone has any info on whether changing a Civic's muffler setup from single to double has any effect, positive or negative, on it's performance.
My cousin-in-law is in automotive school, and said that when they dynoed a Civic modified with a dual-muffler setup, the car actually lost hp and torque, rather than gaining any. Personally, i think it looks mildly cool, but i still wouldn't do it to my car unless it produced any real gains. Just thought i would ask and see if anyone has any real info. I tried a search and nothing came up.

Dual Exhausts are only good on cars with v6's v8's etc. those cars have more than one header so it would be each header with its own exhaust instead of joining both exhausts to one pipe.

You're right...There is no need to have dual exhausts on a I-4. It's just extra, un-needed weight added to your car.

Don't S2000's have dual exhaust? They're a 4 cylinder.

They do, but they were engineered that way for whatever reason by Honda. I don't know why, but i'm sure someone on here knows why.

wish i lived in the ghetto, then i wouldn't be commuting 140 mi each day. i live in a little damn redneck town- more ford/chevy pickups and @#$@# Excursions then anything, and most of the imports are ricers with massive wings and stock engines

there's just a few decent imports in town. one of my friends rides an 86 300zx turbo, and theres a few other Z's in town... i was *this* close to an 86 turbo, but i got my civic and that was that... so now i'm gonna turbo the civic!

Sanity... is not required. Only money, and time.

I wish i had a camera to take pics of all the retarded ricers and wannabe domestic ricers. Here in Chicago, you seem garbage like this every couple of blocks. One guy by my parents house had this nice little CRX Si, some beginner performance mods, but kept the exterior/interior stock. What did he do to fuck it up? Put on a dopey looking body kit and had it painted. Well that doesn't sound so bad, you say? What makes it really bad is whoever did the work didn't even try to color match the paint. It looks terrible. The body kit appears to have a stock red paintjob straight from the factory, while the actual factory paint is incredibly faded and just blahhhh. Throw in some poorly installed clear corners, some stupid looking blue sidemarkers, and you have a car well on the road to ruin.

This got O/T quick. Back on the subject, even the S2000 dual exhaust is not a true dual exhaust along with other cars like the MR2 and the V6 Accord. On a true dual exhaust each header runs it's own pipe and muffler. Anything else IMO is just posing.

they all have single pipe that branches into dual, but like u said those cars are designed to have dual, i have seen it on many civics before, but then u lose a lot of power, and everything else, read the faq about backpressure
