got a big prob

ok my friend was hooking up his air/fuel gauge today and accidently cut the wire that runs from his o2 sensor to his ECU. When he realized this he reconnected it back and tryed to start that car. It tryed to start and back fired, now all it will do is just crank. it is getting fuel cause you can smell it, so we dont think that it's the fuel system. he also just replaced the coil, the plugs and the wires. he has also replaced the o2 sensor it's self. The car ran great before he started open the hood to install the air/fuel gauge. does any one have a clue as to what is happening. Oh yeah and the car it getting spark.

Re: got a big prob

what did he use to reconnect the wire? o2 sensor wires are shielded. i recommend using a soldering pen and heat shrink wrap.

Re: got a big prob

You have to be carefull, I soldering gun to hook mine up, as well as some heat shrink. Just like INCU said. It just sounds like your O2 might not be making good contact. Just re-wire it, or have someone do it for you.

Re: got a big prob

might have fried the ecu dude. A simple shock from touching it can ruin it let alone putting the solderind iron up to the wire. The current from it may have overloeaded it. Pardon me if this is wrong cuz im drunk but it seems to make sense to me... if you haev spares aroundm, try using them to see id thats the prblem. happy saint pattoes day!!!!

you also mentioned that he did a tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.
It is possible the spark plug wires are not in the correct position on the cap. That is where your backfire would come into play.

Check the wires, cap and stuff like that, it sounds like they may not be in correctly/in the right order. The ecu will just throw an error code for the O2 sensor, but it will run. I doubt it is the computer because they are not real sensitive to and kind of shock you could give it by fixing a wire, whereas a home computer is very sensitive.
