Question Cars that can beat an 01 Celica GTS

Ok, my friend is getting his car real soon, and he wants a car that can fit in with the rest of our street racing group. Well, this one guy just got an 01 Celica GTS and the thing is beating a lot of cars. The owner of the car is a complete jackass, and we would love to put him in his place. So what cars out there can compete with the GTS? My friend says that he needs a car that is under $20,000. Anyone have any suggestions?

Used WS6 might just come in at that price and will leave that Celica like a cheap date.

The GTS is pretty slow compared to so many cars. All these cars listed are based on his GT-S being stock or relatively stock (maybe an intake and/or exhaust and a ecu chip or a few other mods...)

Pretty sure all these cars can take them (mostly stock)
240sx (s13 or s14)
Mr-2 (2nd gen turbo) (maybe the new spyder but it would be a lot closer)
Eclipse (GS-T definitely can)
RX-7 (2nd gen)
etc

Just go on to edmunds.com or another site that can tell you stats and check the power (torque is a much better comparison) to weight ratio, that should give you a good idea of what will do well against the Celica.

Those Japanese cars on that list could out run a stock Celica GT-S easily.... but the goal is to piss off the guy and put him in his place. So I would suggest your friend to buy an used LS1 Camaro Z28 and completely whoop him with an "ancient, low-tech" American car to maximized the funniness.

A good sleeper car is a 92-93 Dodge Daytona R/T. It is completely different from all other Daytona's. It is still a 2.2L turbo, but it has a DOHC 4 valve per cylinder instead of the SOHC 2 valve. The R/T was underrated at 224 HP. This is one fast car that will lay the smackdown on a WRX and a GS-T or GSX. Maybe not off the line obviously for the GSX and WRX, but it will catch up fast. It would destroy a GST though. The torque of this car is tremendous. You can find a Daytona R/T for around 6-8K in good condition. Probably around 12K for one in mint condition with really low miles. The good thing about this car is that it is gaining in value instead of loosing value. It is going to be a serious collector car someday, it already is to some extent. I wish I could get one, but I had to settle for a regular Dayona turbo.

If he wants a new car go with the Dodge Neon SRT-4. Turbo 2.4L 215 HP will leave that GTS in the dust. And for 400 dollars MOPAR sells a upgrade kit to up it to 240 HP, and the best part is it does NOT void the warranty since it's made by mopar.

lolz almost any fast car can destroy a GT-S. but trust me a stock 240 will not hang with a GT-S. the GT-S will rape a stock 240.

Those are good sleepers, 0-60mph in under 6 sec.

If you're going for the embarrassment factor, two other options are the Dodge Omni GLHS, which uses the same 224 HP engine in a 2200 lb car. If he's looking for something newer, there's the 2001+ Hyundai Tiburon with a 200HP V6, which can be made to be pretty quick.

Actually, the GLHS only had the T2-which still has 175 HP. The T3 was never in an Omni. But even still, the T2 in the GLHS might be as fast as the T3 in a Daytona R/T because of the huge weight advantage. But of course the Daytona is going to be a much nicer car with more options and comfort. I think the GLHS didn't even come with A/C, but I could be wrong - not sure about that.
