Angry Double Clutching

This is something that i've been wondering about for a long time...I'm going to explain how this works...sorry if it's already been explained before though, i'm not sure if it has.... To double clutch you hit the clutch to shift out of gear and you hit the clutch again to shift into the next gear. My manual transmission teacher told me this last week. Even he does not know why anyone in their right mind would use this while they were racing. It make no sense at all; which brings me to believe that anyone who claims that this is great for better acceleration is a retard(or anyone who taught their sister, in her new Integra GSR). Can anyone explain to me why this might be good, cause i just dont see the point of it.

I forgot to mention that this aggravates the hell out of me when i hear people talk about how cool it is to double clutch and that it's actually better than normal shifting.

hmm, I must have missed that class while in school.

in older cars w/o synchros you had to double shift them, whether you were racing or not.

The only way to "double-clutch" a modern car while racing to get any sort of advantage is used when driving certain Turbo cars.

You clutch in, shift, clutch out, rev up then pump the clutch in then out real quick.

this tends to be hard on your clutch, but it allows your engine to rev while under a load, w/o having the full load of your car...

In a way it makes the engine think the car is 1/2 the weight while pumping the clutch pedal.

This is part of the curriculum for my college degree. I'm studying Automotive Management; which in the first semester has Basic Chassis and Electrical Systems, Intro to Powertrains, and Engine Repair and Rebuild. Still, many people have explained some ludicrous ways in what they think is double clutching(i.e. shifting from 1st to 2nd, then back to 1st and then 3rd) If you really wanted to get a decent boost why not get going and then downshift one gear and back up...Makes more since to me.

Yeah, in fact recently i had a test where i had to take a 3 speed tranny apart. Tell him what all the gears, synchronizers, and blocking rings, and what not were.. And then put it all back together. We started with 3 speeds, next week were doing 5 speeds and transaxles. Yay

Nevermind that it doesn't kick in until like 4800 rpm (how often do you rev that high in normal driving?!?) and that Nissan now offers CONTINUOUSLY variable valve timing on everything, including the 2.5 Sentra...But needless to say the Integra got spanked, and VTEC is really rather primitive nowadays, compared to the newer technology.
