What can I do to a 97 Jetta VR6

What can I do to get the most HP for the cheapest cost? I was looking into geting a chip and cool air intake. Am I on the right track? What else could I do to this car to make it sweet?

Todd

neuspeed makes superchargers for mk3 jettas if ya wanna go that route but yeah, intake and chip are good. maybe new exhaust system [headers/cat converter/downpipe/muffler] that adds hp and sound

well, if you're planning on getting a more powerfull VR6 with low cash I would suggest you do inlet but try to get a german Throttle body, its about 10% Larger that the noes you have in the American VW's. Plus you can remove the cone from the filterBox together with the snow screen, its just there to get rid of filtration but you have an air filter to take care of that. Here is how. if you remove the top part of you airbox you'll see that it has a cone that narrows to the inside, you can remove it iether with a screw driver or if you dont feel like damging it, remove it with a clamp that presses it out, the snow screen is just a arced screen that sits at the bottom of the box, mind the AIR FLOW meter as it is expensive to replace. I would then also consider getting a K&N Airfilter, you'll have a beaty but not to load sound and gain about 3 to 7 HP depending on the engine. But the best route would be a Turbo, I have a 95 jetta with twin T3 turbo's on it with short ship gear link, and let me tell you it was pricey but worth it, I am currently running 1/4 mile at 11 secs without slicks, its always nice leaving a m3, m5 or clk500 in your tyre smoke and see him disapear in you mirrors. sorry I can't post you a picture of her but I have no electronic ones available since all the changes.

Good Luck
VR6 Dude

hmm after the filter and the chip you good for worth cheap work

as i did,, remove your cat carefuly without damaging the sensor,
cut it in the middle with a metal saw, empty the inside (hard job), and then weld it back togheter, if it`s a stock one, put the little metal sheet saying made in germany on the welding, so police will see absolutly nothing,, than grind the inside throttle body, basacly the ramps inside, make sure it`s smooth and polish,,,,,,,, do not touch the part where the clamp close..

plus with 600 CDN bones i`ll send you or you can by the cat cams 274degrees

your car will sound like a muscle car,, i can barely hold the sterring when the car reach 3500 rpm, the tire burning again..

need more ask more

if you live in an area where emissions inspeccions are done, then DO NOT hollow out your catalytic converter, you will not pass emissions.
