Lots of them questions

Ok, i just bought a 2k3 civic EX in february and it has 8k miles on it. Now firstly, when i shift i bring the car to 5-6k rpm on 1st and 2nd before shifting while merging into 30 and go to 3rd and cruise. I usually take my other shifts to 4.5k. Is this detrimental to a new engine or tranny? I was told it could very well be until 10k miles. Also, at what rpm does VTEC kick in? And what would be the added bonus of the VTEC?

your new to this whole car thing arent you? i'd suggest reading more posts around here and you'll learn about vtec. and it is bad to drive a new car at high rpms a lot.

follow what the dealer says but dont start beating the crap out of your car as soon as you pass that mileage. i'd say gradually run it harder and higher rpms if thats what you want to do.

After 500 miles. Personally I would wait til the 1st oil change @ 3,000 miles before beating on the car. Shift under 5,000rpm for normal driving w/ smooth shifts. No reason for slamming gears, thats bad for the tranny.

Now is the perfect time with low miles to switch over to full synthetic earl(oil)

As i said above it's got 8,000 miles on it so no worries there. Yeah i try to get my shifts in the mid to high 4's when accelerating and when im cruising the are 3k-3.5k

The link to this thread should help explain vtec to you, what it does, how it came about, etc.
