B16A, 160hp 111lbs-ft of torque, $1050 at osakajdmmotors.com
B18C5, 195hp ?140?lb-ft of torque, $4200 at same website.

The B18C5 will be much faster right out of the box, they're good motors matched with very good trannys. The problem with putting this in a 4th gen is its a lot of work to get the hydraulic tranny to work in an older cable Civic, and I don't think anyone currently makes a cable > hydro conversion kit.. I think HAsport or place is in the process, so I think a lot of people are waiting for that. (me!)

Considering the price difference I do and always have thought that the B16 is the smarter swap. I mean, with the money left over you could have a much faster car than a C5 powered 4G. However, I could also see why it would be nice to have a motor that is stock and that fast. The big thing is a lot of people wind up selling the ITR tranny so they can pick up a cable B16 tranny. So the B18 loses part of what gives it such and advantage over a lot of motors.. The tight gears, and the LSD. You can get a cable LSD B16A tranny, but the gears are longer than the ITRs, or you could get a cable S1 that has the exact same gearing as the ITR, but non-LSD. Plus they all grind 3rd gear.

Personally, I'm a B16 lover.. I can't help it, its such a good affordable platform for a fast ass 4th gen. I would go with the 1st gen B16 and just pick up a GSR block, and do a small build on that. But what do I know?

Bang for buck I'd say the B16 is better even though it's short 40bhp. The C5 is a sweet engine, but what makes an ITR such a weapon is it's LSD, gearbox, brakes, chassis and suspension, not so much the motor. You can't get those parts into a 4G particularly easy, so what you are left with is a sound motor and that's about it.

CR-VTEC would be my choice, followed by the B18 out of a VTiR/GSR 'teg.
