...the light indicating P/N/D/3/2 on my gear box ('87 300d-Turbo) is out, and would like to know how to fix it?

Lift upthe strip of carpet on your console and unscrew the black screw that holds the console wood down. Carefully remove the wood and you will se everything laid bare in front of you. If you ever want to replace the synthetic rubber shift knob you will need to remove the four corner screws and remove the gear shift selector indicator and remove the nut which holds the shifter in place.
