Question 95 GSR Shifting Problems...

I have a 95 GS-R that i bought back in march with 125k miles on it. A few weeks ago, i started to notice it was getting hard to shift. Now its to the point where when putting it in to gear, I have to push the stick really hard, especially when going from first in to second gear, I have to really pull on the stick hard to get it in to second. Also, it doesn't feel as smooth when letting the clutch out and gasing it.

I'm thinking maybe the clutch is going out? I don't think the previous owner ever replaced the clutch... he was the original owner and never drove it hard from what i could gather about his personality... i've been driving it pretty hard since i got it so i'm thinking maybe that combined with the fact that the clutch was never replaced and its now at 128k miles could be it... Just that I thought when the clutch starts to go out you would feel it slipping, instead of it being hard to put in gear, so i'm not sure what to think...

Somebody else told me it could be something to do with the thing that synchronizes the gears when u shift.

Appreciate any suggestions or comments thanks

sounds like the throwout bearing is going bad. When you let out the clutch you would hear a noticeable spinning noise. Other than that I got no idea. the symptoms seem backwards from a slipping clutch. You would also know too if the synchros are bad if the gears crunch frequently but your suggestion of higher pedal effort lead more to the bearing. I would say just replace the clutch anyways if its an original

before u do wut he said (which i'd do AFTER if this doesn't work), i'd check the clutch master cylinder and slave unit. if those are shot, then ur not gonna be able to shift well at all.

after that, start checking into the clutch more...

this is the exact same problem i have experienced lately. its as if the clutch doesn't disengage all the way when i push the pedal in sometimes when i sit at a light or something with the pedal all the way down the clutch tries to grab and stalls the car, and sometimes if it doesn't grab hard like that i just hear a spinning sound, it is also getting very difficult to shft and the clutch engages very very harshly this has only been happening for about a month the car has 149,500 miles on it and i have owned it for a year and put 10,000 of those miles on it, i have been told it could either be the throw out bearing or possibly the clutch cable stretched? i tend to think it's the bearing though.

Yep, thats exactly what's been happening to my GS-R knorwj, the sounds it makes when idling, and sometimes the clutch engaging... I took it in to a local mechanic and they said I need a new clutch, and they are putting a new one in as I write this...

I just hope they weren't ripping me off... Its going to end up costing over 700 for the clutch, labor, and misc other stuff. Does anyone know if this sounds right or am I gettin ripped for a clutch job? I'm a newbie when it comes to cars....

Anyway I would assume I need a new clutch anyway, the previous owner said he never replaced the clutch, and at 128k I think it would be past due. I'm surprised it lasted this long, I guess he really babied the thing....

deffinitaly somethin wrong sounds like weak pressure plate fingers to me but so far everones guesses could cause similar symptoms. But the pressure plate is replaced with the clutch so you should be all set

On my 95 GS-R, I had similar symptoms and it turned out that part of the disk had broken and the clutch would never really completely release since it had a slight "pringle" shape to it. Replaced the disk, P/P, T/O bearing, pilot bearing. Problem solved.
