Scanners?

Where can I find a scanner to hook into my 93 318is? Is there anything I should know about doing this? Prices, manufacturer, etc.... I'm kind of new to the BMW world, but am eager to learn more. There is nothing wrong with the car, but it'd be nice to have. The port for the scanner is under the hood, that round deal with the cap that screws off on the top of the motor on the right side, correct? Is the car programmable? Is there a way I could hook it into my laptop? Many thanks in advance!

The only thing that is out there is the PEAKE Reset Tool, which just resets the oil/service lights and another one by the same manufacture that outputs the check engine codes. There is no port adapter that will allow you to plug the engine computer into a laptop. There is for VW (see European Car Mag Oct2001/or Sept 2001 issue), maybe one day those guys will come out with one for a BMW but it is doubtfull.
