Here's an American car you don't see everyday, unless you live in the US maybe!

This is a promo of a '95 Dodge Stratus. I added Aoshima aftermarket wheels and tires to it and nothing else up to now. I may do more to it in the future but I'm not sure yet. This first picture was taken without a flash.

Here's the rear view, taken with a flash. I've been thinking about maybe lowering it a bit, adding a wing, big grapefruit shooter tailpipe in back, "tunerize" it a little. What you all think?

These cars can actualy look pretty cool. My brother had one, he had a custom turbo set up, and he had a body kit, and lots of other mods.
http://www.andysautosport.com/dodge/95_00stratus.html heres a link to the company that makes the kit?

What do I think? I think it looks sweet but please don't do all that "tuner" crap to it! How can you tune a car by chucking a fart can on it slamming it's ass and putting a "wing" on it? Sure lower it a little but don't turn it into a heap of crap!

before everyone gets to excited let me tell you this... the Stratus is more or less a Chrysler Cirrus and/or Plymouth Breeze. what does this mean? its a new evolution of the K-car... thats right the one your grandmother had. also when he says this is a promo he means its a die-cast, like the ones you see on your evil car salesmens desk at the dealership. he just popped the wheels off and put the Aoshima rims on. it might be rare in a sense but not very important to a modeller. sorry Bob cus i like alot of your model cars. this car came with a 2-litre 4-banger with 132HP. options were a 2.4 litre 4-banger DOHC 145HP and worst of all a Mitsubishi 2.5 litre V-6 161hp engine. this Mitsubishi option sounds ok till you realize its the Hyundai V-6. yes Mitsu is affiliated with Hyundai. If its rare its because they all have broke down by now. anyhow, maybe unique in a way but not very important.

Here we go again....

Not all promo models are die-cast, some are plastic too.

True that about car salesmen being evil

Yeah, nevermind how the Stratus was the dominant car in the short lived North American Touring Car Championship.

Besides, there were K-cars that still strike fear into the hearts of true performance enthusiasts. Shelby Chargers, Daytona Iroc Z's, LeBaron GTC, the later V6 Daytonas, and my personal favorite (plus the one that is most likely to make a Civic SI owner shi*t his pants) the Omni GLH series.

Let me elaborate.

Omni GLH: The base model (of which my father has owned two). Approx. 130hp stock, but also 145lbft of torque. Plus they were light and wore huge Goodyear Gatorbacks. 5spd Getrag gearboxes with 4.11gears meant that these things accelerated (and had torque steer that could wrench the wheel out of your hands) The ride was punishing thanks to a beam axle rear suspension that was stiffened to about 1 inch deflection but it also meant a 64mph dash through the 60ft slalom.

Omni GLH Turbo: Thanks Mitsubishi, because their turbo technology granted 160hp to the GLH. Add on a vented hood for cooling (no intercooler in those days) and slightly wider gear ratios and this was a Mustang killer. But a very finicky one since the non-intercooled Mitsubishi turbo didn't like talking to the SOHC Chryco 2.2L four.

Omni GLH-S: Only 500 of these were made, but it's 500 of the rowdiest hatchbacks this side of Group B. First off, bye bye Mitsubishi turbo. Hello Garret Air Researches turbo and INTERCOOLER (halleluia ). 180hp was the stock jump with about 8lbs of boost, but crank down on the wastegate and 225hp was a reliable commodity. Balanced chrome moly halfshafts and a viciously bitey LSD added to the already psychotic handling of the base GLH. The interior was stripped, right down to radio delete. All of the GLH-S's were Black with silver striping, and had Shelby dash plaques.

The end result? The Dodge Omni GLH was the BEST HANDLING CAR in America according to Road & Track as of 1985.

The moral of this story? Don't try to knock around the K-car. It has a performance pedigree that makes a lot of the current hot hatch crowd bow their heads in shame. To quote the R&T review "Forget the GTi, this is the real finger in the socket, cock it and lock it, full time pocket rocket!"
