to all Holley carb owners

I heard when ever you install a Holley carb, you always have to tune it according to the elevation. Is that true?

Re: to all Holley carb owners

well it depends. any carb is effected by elevation. so in a sence yes thats true. but it depends on how it is set up to begin with. say you buy a carb from a guy who lives at see level and asuming that it was perfectly tuned at the elevaton, then you buy it and you like at say 400 ft. above. then it will not be perfectly tuned for you. so yes you would need to tune it.

Re: to all Holley carb owners

you need to learn what everything is and does, meaning all the different parts. i especialy like quadrajet carbs. i can do more with one of those than any other. if you want to learn your best bet would be to get a book of sorts. there are some books/manuals out there that are spacificaly about rebilding carbs and how to tune them and different performance mods you can do. some of them even give little hints about things. persoanly i learned all on my own and just used comen sence. i had a problem with my car running rich one time. well guess what i did to fix it. i put in bigger primary jets. now you would also think that would make it run richer. well it would. except i put in bigger primary metering rods also. so they block more fuel. after then it runs so much better. not rich and when you hit the throttle your removing more metering rod in the same amout of time witch lets more fuel through faster, plus you have bigger jets so your running alot more fuel but you leaned it out at the same time. there is just alot to learn about carbs. i would say start with one spacific design. either like hollys, or edelbrock and quadrajet stuff. hollys meater air while most other meater fuel. just stick with one kind for a while then you will know enough to do others.
