Remove steering wheel?

I have a 2000 V-70 and have wore the color off the steering wheel. I want to take the wheel off and have it dyed, but I'm not sure how to take it off with the Air Bag and all. How do I take the steering wheel off and not have any problems with the Air Bag?

Ok taking off the steering wheel is a easy task,
FIRST disconnect the battery, this is a safety precausion to keep the airbag from going off, wait about 5 to 10 minutes.
Next you will need a long 40 torx bit ( i think its a 40 been a while)
there are 2 torx screws on the back of the steering wheel in two small holes, they are about 3 inches into the steering wheel this is why you will need a long thin bit. Then once you have those out, NOTE- they will not come all the way out of the steering wheel, but they will come lose from the airbag. Then you can pull on the airbag and it should come out. There will be 1 wire to the air bag, disconnect this wire and let it hang, set the airbag facing UP under the car. (this is another safety precausion, just incase static sets off the airbag it will not launch itself into low earth orbit.) Now you can get to the bolt holding the steering wheel on.

There is a screw holding a yellow tag to the steeringwheel this should have the airbag plug and wire attached to it, unscrew this tag and put the screw in a blank hole at the top (1 O'clock position) on the clock spring. (NOTE- THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU DONT DO THIS THE CLOCK SPRING WILL UNSPOOL, THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO FIND CENTER AGAIN. And let me tell you from experiance that sucks.) Now once thats secure, it doesnt have to be super tight but snug, too tight you will break the clock spring too loose and it wont be secure enough to hold it and keeping it from unwinding. Have some else hold the steering wheel or you can hold the steeringwheel with one hand and try and break that bolt lose, let me tell you you will need a long handle ratchet to do this without blowing out your "O-Ring". I think its 16 or a 17mm bolt, once you have it out you can just pull the steering wheel off, make sure to mark the position of the wheel so you know how to get it back on right, otherwise it will be crooked.

Or you could do things the EASY way and take it to a Volvo Shop and pay them to take it off for you. I think its a 2 hour job at most. Either way if you have never done anything like this I dont suggest it, becuase there is alot that you can screw up and hurt yourself with while doing that if you dont know what you are doing.
