Question Question about engine swap for '89 Honda Civic

Hi! This is my first post here. Everyone seems so helpful. I was wondering if you could help me.

I have 1989 Honda Civic with automatic transmission. I was thinking of doing an engine swap to boost the horsepower so it runs faster. Would it be a good idea to swap to an automatic engine or a 5-speed engine? Thank you in advance.

It would be easier to swap an auto tranny, becuase that would be one less thing you would have to convert. However, a manual transmission will generally give better performance, and a higher fun factor. It all depends on your driving skill.

I personally would swap in a manual transmission, but thats just me.

Oh, and welcome to the board, hope you enjoy your stay

Welcome to the board!

The auto would be easier, but 5-speed would be faster if you're willing to work the stick.

many ppl will say go with a b16A, any B series motors will not drop in. then there are a few that live by D series engines so you would want a D16z6/y8 both v-tec motor that are drop in, you would just need to wire in the v-tec. i would go with a crvtec this would be a B20 and a B16a or B18c1/5 head run a little boost and you are set. And you would be faster if you had a 5spd.
