Cherokee Mods??
Ok I have a 1996 cherokee and its got around 130,000 miles on it and still running strong "got it from the folks who had it since new".
Anyway it still has the facotry sterio that really bites. Anyone put in a custom sterio that uses the stock speaker locations?? "It's the weird setup with the rear speakers on the celing that is just behind the rear seat and I beleive they are 5 and 1/4" speakers. Also anyone know if they make any custom tail and headlight kits for these things?? I love the ultra bright projection headlights and the clear tail lights but have no idea where to go to find these? Thanks, Joe Z.

Ive installed a stereo system into a 95 before it was a pain in the ass.
Youve got to take your dash panel off good luck its not easy. Then unplug the existing head unit. Buy a wiring harness you can get them at any specialty automotive audio shop. Youll need a new head unit ofcourse then plug the harness into the stock wiring pack and connect the wires of the head unit to the harness. Follow the color coding instructions. New speakers what a pain anyway remove the paneling in front of the stock speakers to gain access unscrew the old and plug in the new. Sounds easy but have fun!!!! If you plan on installing subs make sure your new head unit is set up with preout to start with . Get an amp watiage depending lay your ground wire hook it up to the head unit. Then run the wire in your subs from the amp adjust the gains onthe amp until you get the clearity you want. The most important thing to remember is disconnect your battery before doing anything I blew three fuses doin this shit!!!! Enjoy.!!

If this is anything like a 98, it is not that bad, the speakers in the top in the back and in the front should both be 6 1/2s I put new speakers in both and am looking at getting new 6 1/2 phoenix gold components, because I now have 2 15" subs, which I want to be able to play without blowing out my tweeters, so I would suggest getting phoenix gold or MB quarts if you are looking at new speakers. I did not have to go to the head unit for my new components, I just cut the ends of the wires on the sides and wired them together, not a hard job... well have fun with whatever you do. You will need a new head unit, and if you get a head unit, I would get everything at once and then pay around 70 dollars to get it installed by a good store, since it is cheaper to install everything than each by itself. I wouldn't suggest doing a head unit on your own, that is a pain

I'm trying to figure out which wire of the three that the headlights plug into is the High Beam wire? There is Red/Orange on the left, Black on the right, and Purple/Red on the top. Since I had my owner's manual stolen I have another question: are there two separate fuses for the headlights in the 1998 or is it still only one fuse for the whole connection? Spinhunt |

The 1996 cherokee has 5 1/4" speakers in all 4 locations according to crutchfield "unfortunatly". I thought that on a 96 by the looks of the door you had to take the door panel off as it has a rectangular speaker grill on the door? After some consideration I figure it would just be probably wiser to just have a sterio installed rather than try to do it myself "plus that way if something goes wrong its not on my head "bad wire job ect."
Also my dash board lights just starting going out, I hate the thought of haveing to take off the dash to fix that but is that the only way? Thanks
