Buick Electra Park Ave TPS Setting

Ok, I may be new to the forum but not new to forums in general. My story starts with my blasted little cam position magnet going out on my 89 Electra Park Ave. with the 3.8L V6. Got that fixed. Engine was still running really rough. Changed the plug wires bye bye roughness. the problem now... is the TPS This has been changed (Stupid stupid stupid) because it was one of the trouble codes the engine had thrown. Now, we've got the new one but don't know at what voltage to set it at an "idle". Please. I'm begging you. HELP!!!!!!! Sorry thing has been driving me nuts.

.48V is the sweet spot for most.

Have you reset the ECM as well?

Re: Buick Electra Park Ave TPS Setting

Figured out what the problem was... When I changed the plug wires I unplugged the TPS and MAF sensors to get a little more play in the loom they were in... so... I guess you can kinda figure out what happend next. Works great when it's plugged in!

Re: Buick Electra Park Ave TPS Setting

My car is the same model.('89 Electra) and it threw the same trouble codes. One for the Cam Position Sensor and the TPS. It happend when i was at WOT for a few seconds. I am wondering, if I replace the TPS, will that fix both problems. The cam position sensor tested to work just fine. It seems more logical that the TPS would be damaged at WOT than the Cam magnet. It is also much much easier to change the 30 dollar TPS than the 8 dollar magnet. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Buick Electra Park Ave TPS Setting

I changed the TPS today. I set the voltage at .49 with the key in ON position and the engine off. I am still getting trouble code 22 TPS voltage too low.
I am also still getting the code 41 about the cam. To make sure the cam sensor wasn't setting the code 22, I reset the ECM and turned the key to ON without starting the engine and then got the trouble code. That time I only got trouble code 22. So it seems that I am having trouble with both of them. I really don't know what to do about the TPS. Can anyone help me?

Re: Buick Electra Park Ave TPS Setting

It's important to stay with genuine GM/ACD parts. These computer systems don't like aftermarket crap. For absolute smooth running, you have to continue to adjust the tps until it finds it's "sweet spot". Also, don't ignore the cam sensor...it's ultra sensitive and if it goes bad, it'll kill all the sensors.
