2015 Honda Odyssey engine noise?
Hi. We had our 2015 Honda Odyssey serviced a few weeks ago (oil change and tire rotation) and ever since then we feel that the engine is making a weird noise. It's sort of a higher pitched whirring noise (I don't know how to describe it.) I've attached a video of the engine noise while driving. Around 7 seconds you can start to hear the noise if you listen closely. We aren't sure if this is normal or not. For all we know it may have always sounded like this, and we just started noticing. Thanks for any advice.

Re: 2015 Honda Odyssey engine noise?
hi, welcome to Automotive Forums..
as to your noise, at 7 it was very imperceptible, but sounded in video, almost more of 'humming'.. but you say 'whirring', so to better isolate; does it do it in the drive in park just idling, or slightly pushing on accelerator? if so, then engine.. but if you only hear it while driving, it could be an unbalanced tire (since you do not believe the noise was there prior, and you mentioned oil change, AND tire rotation).. it could still be engine related, and usually a "whir" noise (if a change in pitch during accel or de-accel) is most likely an accessory; something the multi-rib belt sprins: alternator, power steering, Air Con, et cetera.. if you could better describe when the noise occurs; and anything else that might be happening, would better to diagnose virtually.. |

Re: 2015 Honda Odyssey engine noise?
The noise that I hear sounds like a tire issue. My guess would be that when they rotated the tires they moved a bad tire to the front where it's more perceptible. You may want to check to confirm first that you don't have directional tires. Maybe when they did the rotation they put the wheels/tires on in a way that they are not spinning in the correct direction. Also inspect the tires for unusual tread wear.
You might also have the tires rotated again to see if the noise remains or changes. If it remains, then you may have a bad wheel bearing. If it changes, then it further supports a tire issue. And if the tire issue is due to treadwear, then you should have an alignment performed before replacing the tires. -Rod |

I didn't notice any sound out of the normal. It could just be a lot of background noise. I would suggest getting a scan tool and do a live scan. Now a days you could even go to YouTube and look up your questions. I would start and watcha scotty kilmer video if i were stomped on a problem.

Re: 2015 Honda Odyssey engine noise?
Sounds like tire noise to me as well.
If tires aren't rotated enough, they will develop irregular wear and that comes out as noise or vibrations (same thing, just different frequencies!). Misalignment aggravates the situation and the worse the misalignment, the worse and more rapidly the vibrations show up. Even alignments "in spec" can cause these kind of noises! |
