Older Magnum Motor Oil Recommendation
Hi everyone,
My first post here. My 2006 Magnum is getting a bit old. It has 220,000 miles. It runs great but when I stop at a traffic light and the engine is idling, the oil pressure warning light flashes off and on. I figure my rings are getting worn but not yet ready to rebuild. It could also be the oil pump not working as well as it did. I am still using 5W20 motor oil, but have gone to Mobil 1 synthetic for high mileage vehicles. Should I change the oil weight to help keep the pressure up, add one of the oil additives and just go until I am ready for the rebuild? Thanks for any recommendations. |

Re: Older Magnum Motor Oil Recommendation
Rings have nothing to do with oil pressure. If oil pressure light is flickering your bearings and/or oil pump is worn out.
With mileage that high I wouldn't even use synthetic. I'd use full conventional oil and probably 10w40. Can't say how long it would prolong your current situation though.

Re: Older Magnum Motor Oil Recommendation
Thank you, I will try the 10W40 and see if it helps for a bit. Just cannot afford to rebuild/replace right now.
