Question '98 Ford Ranger DOOR AGAR & DOME LIGHT STAYS ON.

Help...PLease,

The "door agar light" and the dome light stays on. I have checked all the fuses. Anyone know what I need to do?

Thanks for any help!
Pete

Lightbulb Re: '98 Ford Ranger DOOR AGAR & DOME LIGHT STAYS ON.

Sounds like the problem I had with my 95 Mazda/Ranger first when it was still under warranty and then again when it was about 5 years old. The "door ajar" buzzer would go on continually for 10-30 minutes (and the dome light stayed on). The issue was the switch in the door lock mechanism. Some grease took care of the problem.

The dealer replaced the switches under warranty when it happened the first time, but I suspect they were just padding their billing. After I found out about the lube problem and started greasing the lock once in awhile, the problem never came back.

Re: '98 Ford Ranger DOOR AGAR & DOME LIGHT STAYS ON.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not exactly sure that is my problem. Fortunately my "door agar" buton does not trigger a "buzz" sound. I don't understand why my problem has anything to do with locking or not locking the doors. The dome light stays on either way. Sometimes it goes off in 30 minutes (approx).

???? Pete

Thumbs up Re: '98 Ford Ranger DOOR AJAR & DOME LIGHT STAYS ON.

Worked on my 2002 Ranger also.
Just shot some WD-40 in the latch mechanism area (in the dark this morning) and all's OK.

Re: '98 Ford Ranger DOOR AGAR & DOME LIGHT STAYS ON.

I've had the same problem with my 98' Ranger. I replaced the door lock switches myself with no luck fixing the problem. The local autoparts store sold me a relay that I could not find in the truck anywhere. Needless to say, that didn't work either. Then a friend suggested I spray some WD-40 in the mechanism while the lock was assembled in the door and try that. It work beautifully! No more problem.

It's always better to talk to the people that are having the problem not the writer or counter person who reads it from a book.........If "A" won't come on unplug 11a

Re: '98 Ford Ranger DOOR AGAR & DOME LIGHT STAYS ON.

it is the door latch. the way that ford set it up there is a lil ball that is a switch and dirt gets stuck in there and it gets gummy and sticks so if you lube and clean it she will work just fine

Yup, Dome Light went off just a few minutes after I sprayed the locking mechanisms with WD-40...SWEET!!!! I also hit the hinges too, but just a dab of spray.

Had the same issue with Mazda / ranger. A little squirt of lube in the latch mechanism and the light turned off. go figure!
