I'm sorry to tell you that you have a car that is known for transmission problems. The Ford Taurus from that generation (excluding the SHO models) go through transmission failure quite often. The symptoms your describing are where it usually starts and it's just going to get worse. The best part of your car is the engine, the rest of it is either just mediocre or just plain crappy.
