Re: Tahoe,,Brakes

Does your Tahoe use the Bendix Hydroboost system or a vacuum power booster?

Re: Tahoe,,Brakes

Open the hood and look. If the booster has the familiar 12-14" round drum behind it that would be a vacuum booster. If the booster is no bibber than the master cylinder and has two power steering pressure lines connected to it, it's a Hydroboost.

If you need to replace from past experience on 1 ton Chevys you will find you need a special tool.
http://www.ebay.com/ Search items 281581322518,322132077014,272116766901
As Blue Bowtie has done this model ask him which one will fit.

Re: Tahoe,,Brakes

If this vehicle is a 1/2T or 3/4T chassis it may not need the K-M tool because it likely uses the staked-in pedal push rod and standard MC push rod. It could be a matter of loosening the MC nuts to slightly move the MC out of the way, removing the pedal rod clip, then R&R the HydroBoost unit.

Unfortunately, they aren't inexpensive, but brakes are a good thing to have.

Re: Tahoe, Brakes

You need to bleed the power steering system as that is where the hydro boost gets its energy.

You might consider a new master cylinder next.
