Re: 1997 pontiac grand prix 3.8 transmission trouble
Tranny with that amount of mileage and years, could have seal problems......AS THE FLUID HEATS UP, makes those hard seals a little more pliable, and they seal better....

Re: 1997 pontiac grand prix 3.8 transmission trouble
It's my belief, that "fixes in a bottle" have their limitations.....
They should be used more for preventive maintenance, rather than a cure..... That being said, is the car worth having a major transmission overhaul? No..... How much longer do you plan on keeping the vehicle? To do nothing, it will probably get worse..... Will it hurt? I have no idea.....you have to make that decision.... |

Re: 1997 pontiac grand prix 3.8 transmission trouble
Lucas isn't a cure-all. Its one of those things you add as soon as a problem presents itself and hope for the best, or as stated, its used as preventative maintenance.
The other problem with Lucas is if you add some you're going to have to remove the same amount of trans fluid you intend on adding or you will overfill the trans and there is no easy way to remove fluid.. Speaking of that have you checked the fluid level? If its low it could cause your problem. Basically once the pressure builds up from the pump running it could then let the problem go away.
