01 Bravada SmarTrak encoder motor ?
Well, I posted a months ago that I fixed my Service AWD light on my instrument panel by removing the ATC fuse in the engine compartment and taping on the encoder motor with a hammer and replacing fuse and it was fixed.
Well, we got some snow the other night...and got to test out AWD system. Pulled up my driveway, (up hill of course) and rear wheels started to slip and the front engaged and I was able to pull it eventually, well when I got into garage, the Service AWD light came back on. Along with the 5 'ckicks' I would hear when starting the car. I put the key in the ignition and turn key, get five clicks fro the TCCM over by the glove box. Now last week I removed the little fluid that was left in the transfer case (a little over a quart) and replaced it with auto Trak II....2 quarts....it solved alot of the 'Hop' I was feeling making sharp turns. Did the same hammer and fuse trick and the light went off again and no more clicking from the TCCM. Any clues what it might be? Encoder motor sticking or is gears or clutches in TC going bad? When u changed the fluid in transfer case, it was nasty....a quart low and some grit was in the fluid...tried to put a crappy magnet in the grit and don't think any was metal... Any help would be appreciated.. Sav |

Both the tccm and the transfer case very high failure rates in that truck. Tccm is your cheapest choice, but sounds like the transfer case is binding up.

Re: 01 Bravada SmarTrak encoder motor ?
Yeah, called the junk yard...they got encoder motors for $75 and TCCM's for $50 (have to bring old TCCM to match up numbers from what I understand)..
Well, I'm gonna replace the fluid again seeing how I put about 200 miles on it since change and see if it helps..but yeah, I hope it's not the transfer case but might just let it go seeing how we might just have a mild winter this year. Wish I knew someone with a TechII to read AWD codes..lol...might be best to bust out the $ and have dealer read it. Thanks for the reply |

Re: 01 Bravada SmarTrak encoder motor ?
Well, got some snow last weekend..and the AWD kicked in for a min...then slipped out to just rear wheel drive, Service AWD light came on. Shut engine off and Service AWD light went out.
I hope it's just the encoder motor and not the transfer case or TCCM...any suggestions? |
