Unhappy Climate Control lights.

I have a 03 Impala the lights on my dual climate control stopped working, are these lights integrated into system or is there a bulb I can change. It is very frustrating having burnt out bulbs. My pet peeve is burnt out lights.

Re: Climate Control lights.

The lamps in the climate control panels are not designed to be changed easily, but they can be changed. The panel needs to be removed from the vehicle and partially disassembled to allow access to the lamps. I have relamped several of those, auxiliary switches, and radios and the designs are all similar. Most of the lamps are soldered in place and include silicone caps to produce a specific color to match the rest of the instruments. Bulbs are not likely to readily available in auto parts stores. Electronics supply stores should have what you need. A very common size in GMs is 8111 with plain leads or 8099 which include a plastic base.

You can try to replace them with LEDs but selecting the correct color temperature can be difficult and polarity must be observed. Setting up proper circuit current limiting and dimming are also challenges with LEDs but can be overcome with some additional engineering.
