Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
Something to add...there is no water in oil..and radiator is full..once it gets hot it never really cools down..or takes quite some time to cool down

Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
The radiator may need cleaning/replacing.
Does the fan roar when it gets hot like that? Check the outer radiator for dirt, leaves etc. |

Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
Don't hear fan..took hose and washed the radiator from engine side and front it helped a little..no smoke coming from exhaust..might need a new radiator..thanx Chris..

The fan should be turning extra hard while the engine is hot like that.

Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
You are about 500 feet above sea level so yours should run about 215 fully hot and pressurized. Usually over temps at speed are an airflow problem while over temps at idle are coolant flow problems so I don't think you need a new radiator. Go back and take another look both sides of the radiator for air blockages and debris. The Bravada's are notorious for picking up lots of leaves. Also the first thing I do whenever I have an over temp or even smell some anti freeze is to get a new radiator cap. Cheap fix if it works and your going to want a new one if you have to replace the radiator anyway

Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
Thanx for the replies guys..well last night on way home I had ac off outside temperature was bout 90 and it got up to 225..got off freeway and engine temperature stayed constant.when I turned into the wind it cooled down back to bout 200..I think I'm getting good air flow through radiator..I'm gonna try new clutch fan and see what happens since I don't hear it working accept when it first starts up. One thing bout radiator cap..it has a "lever stant" cap...maybe I'll put regular cap on..even though it looks in good shape.. thanx again for the replies

Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
The radiator hoses should be tight with pressure at normal running temperatures.

Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
Well I put in new fan clutch..drove around town at slower speeds..did some extended idling when engine warmed up..never went above 210..went to work..no problems...came home from work it went to 220..got off freeway had some stop and go it went to 240..don't know what the problem is.still can't hear fan with new clutch..but at idle its pulling air..(did cigarette test) heard some one talk about air in system..but I always thought it works itself out..don't know how to get it out if that's the problem..

Re: 98 bravada running a little hot at highway speeds
While cold with the radiator cap off, park it at a fairly steep incline, passenger side/front high...I park in the ditch and let the engine warm up. If it just pukes with no air being burped out, it's full and you might consider removing the radiator and cleaning it with the garden hose or let a radiator shop flush it with their combination of air and water.
