1987 van 250 needs gas pedal down to start

i have a 1987 ram van b250 indoor lights dont work clock dosent work and i dont care the problem it has is when i start it i have to have the gas pedal all the way down then if i dont give it some gas it dies but ill give it 20 seconds then it sounds fine and runs good my friend said the starter is good battery is good. he said it might be the battery connections their is alot of wires connecting to the battery he said they might be draining it wen i start the van do i need to take all these wires that dont do any thing.
