Has anyone gotten or plan on getting the X-Box?

A friend of mine was supposed to camp out last night for the release but I never heard from him yet so I have no idea if he got it.

Me.....I am waiting for the GameCube


Also question for you all: Is it worth it to you to camp out for something like a video game system? Just curious to see who would or would not.

I've got three of them in my office right now. A coworker went out and bought them this morning. I don't know if I'm going to grab one from him or not. Personally, I wouldn't camp out for a video game system.

I wouldnt "camp-out" for anything, I would pre-order one. In the case of things that you cant pre-order, I would just wait. Im not in that big of a hurry for anything that it cant wait a few days. (unless it was a new car, then id want it now )

I am interested in getting an X-Box system, but I will wait for a month or so, and see what bugs / flaws appear, then I will decide if I still want one.

I can't believe how big and heavy they are. We took one out of the box to check it out, and it's twice the size of a PS2.

Sony's president feels that the Xbox could force the company's hand in releasing its PS3 console earlier than intended.

In a recent interview with The Financial Times, Kunitake Ando, president and CEO of Sony, said that the Microsoft Xbox, which comes with a hard drive and Ethernet adapter out of the box, could force the company to transition to the PS3 earlier than intended. "The biggest threat to the PlayStation 2 is that the Xbox changes the industry's life cycle," said Ando, who feels that it is unclear whether the current PS2 business model is sustainable and that its console life cycle could be reduced to three years as a result. Although sales of the PlayStation 2 console remain strong, Ando said that the company is still in the process of recuperating its high front-end chip manufacturing costs.
Given his comments, it is not surprising that Ando feels that Microsoft has replaced Nintendo as the biggest competitor for his company's games division. "Nintendo's GameCube has been a disappointment in Japan, they have sold only a third of what they had hoped," he said. "The PlayStation 2 is viewed by gamers as the games console to own." Ando further stated that although there was interest within Sony to enter the handheld business to compete directly with Nintendo's Game Boy Advance, Ken Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, requested that the company remain out of that market in order to focus its efforts exclusively on the PlayStation 2.

Despite Ando's comments, a majority of industry analysts feel that the PlayStation 2 has strong sustainable potential to become the market leader among the current generation of consoles. A recent report by the International Development Group forecasted that the PlayStation 2 installed base would grow to 34 million by 2004 in North America, from its current base of 7.2 million units. IDG further projected that the Microsoft Xbox would reach an installed base of about 20 million units in North America by 2004, while the Nintendo GameCube would reach a base of 18 million units in that same period.

Research for and development of the PlayStation 3 is already under way. Sony has partnered with Toshiba and IBM, as part of a combined $400 million, five-year investment, to develop the technology for the PS3. Production of the chip, at last report, was slated to begin in 2004. According to Sony, the new chip design will be fundamentally different from what the company has used in the past and will have a greater focus on delivering communication and broadband services.

I'm happy with my PS2 can't justify $499 for an X-box console, sony will come along with the PS3 & it will be better.

Remember there game plan is to have a PS9 that is suppose to be virtual, RUMORS i heard in the gaming industry.

Not so much that Hum! You see, Gamecube right now as it stands has not sold well at all. They've only sold a third of what they had inticipated in sales. However, X-Box has moved up to be a competitor to PS2. But PS2, remember, is more established in the gaming world than X-Box. This is X's first time out and as always with any new gaming system coming out, everyone is rushing to get one. It's after you get it and after the hype is all gone, will X-box truly make an impact as it pertains to longevity. This of course, is just my .02.

X-box has better graphics and functionality, but will it have the lifespan that Sony and Playstation have.

I dunno about the X-box. I heard from a friend who has relatives that work in that industry that MS pulled all the demo X-boxes because they were crashing (must be Windows d'oh).

Alex saw a demo Game Cube somewhere and said the graphics are awesome. I wouldn't camp out for a game system myself, and depending on the mad rush, I can wait a few months to get it. I already have a PS, N64, and Dreamcast...we don't play enough video games to justify camping out but it's always nice to have one for when free tiem does come up..especially with the holidays coming up and nephews n nieces wanting to get away from all the adult conversation hehe.

I've debated this with Doc, on AIM, I already have my Xbox its sitting right in my room. I now have, PS2, Dreamcast,GBA, and Xbox, and, I'll have Gamecube sometime after Xmas, thats a given. Call me rich if you want, but being a gamer, is part of my life. And MTBN, your not very well informed about Xbox, if you hint that its a PC, i mean come on, you know its not a PC. Sony has the brand reginiton. MS. Personally, I prefer the Xbox launch line up, to that SHITTY PS2 one. But, seriously, people that call Xbox a PC are fucking retards, thats not you MTBN, because, i talk to you online some. There is other idiots out there.
