Throttle sticking closed
1997 Riviera - 3.8 Liter, L36 - 141,734 miles
A minor problem has re-appeared. From a cold engine (after sitting in garage for a day or two), I start-up and roll down the driveway using `cold-engine idle´ without touching accelerator pedal. Putting it in Drive, when first steeping on the pedal, it's stuck in the closed throttle position momentarily. There's a sticking or resistance to `first step´ on it. Does that sound like a cable? or some throttle body issue? This has happened before, and Induction Service solved it, but that might have been just a cover story. ![]() Is there a known condition? What needs lub or de-gunking? Thanks, -Ed |

Re: Throttle sticking closed
Sticking butterfly valve in throttle body. Had several different cars that did that. Almost felt like a stuck cable. On most, I was able to clean the throttle body without removing it. Put some towels under the throat. Pull intake hose. Throttle body cleaner or similar. Spray the throat. Let it soak a few minutes. Repeat. Carbon build up on throat and butterfly valve
