Anyone bought this model yet?

I just bought the Revell Datsun 510 "tuners" model. Has anyone had any luck with this particular model?? The one I got, is so damn tiny, its 1/25 scale. Most of the pieces are covered in tons of flash, and several peices were warped a bit, and had little pot marks on them. anyone else had bad quality on this model, or did I just get a bad one?

Most of them are like that because the kit dates back to the mid '70s. it can be built up into a real contest winner with a fair amount of patience and care!

You would have brought it new when it came out back then

That is a very old kit tooling, based off the BRE Racing 510 kit. Notice the lack of backseat, fender flares, and lowered suspension. Too bad they didn't include the rollbar that was in the original kit. It is a horrible kit if you're used to the newer stuff. Over time when the molds wear out they don't fit together very well, hence all the flash you see.

Mine was coming along very nicely until I set the freshly painted body upside down on a paper towel to do some underside detailing. Too bad the paper towel had wet CA glue on it. Oh well, good excuse to break it apart and put a V8 in the back seat.

edit - Just so you know now, that driver-side motor mount will not fit unless you cut off about half of it. I have no idea why.

I was really surprised to see how small the kit looked too. The body came with a-lot of excess plastic on it, but I have yet to do anything with the model.

I cleaned up the model... I am very surprised how simple it is. I will say, I don't like the color scheme they have going for it, so I am doing it my own way. Over half the model can be put together before it even has one drop of paint on it, due to half of the model being one color, the other half another. not much detail here at all.

plus, is anyone else's chrome pieces look like the chrome was just globbed on?

Pictures please?

I found that Revells Le Mans Racing Porsche is very well-done in Quaility with minimum Flash! I guess it depends on the kit, huh?

Hi there datsun 510s or 1600s here in auz are very popular with tuners and look great if done properly

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~shoeman/

heres a good example

another good idea is to find a rx7(tamiya) rotary engine and converting it into the 510 it would look great!
its a shame we auzzies have to import those datsun 510 models i wish i had a chance to get my hands on one!
anyway have fun and tell me when your finished
