Door opens from inside but not from outside

passenger door on my 93. I took some pix to try to figure out what was going on and what I'm dealing with because I'm basically having to go in blind. The door opens from the inside but won't from the outside. Awhile back it was becoming difficult to open from the outside, like you really had to give it a solid tug to get the door to open. Now it won't open from the outside at all. I noticed today that the handle is a little loose and I found out why once I looked in there: there is only 1 bolt holding the handle on instead of 2 (not sure how that could possibly be causing my problem???)

For now I pushed the door panel back on and shut the door (minus screws/bolts/plates) because I'd like to figure this out soon!

pictures, although I'm not sure if they're of any help: http://imgur.com/a/HSw8u

Re: Door opens from inside but not from outside

Most likely the linkage that goes from the inside of the outer door handle, to the lock mechanism down below has become unattached or the lock mechanism itself has rusted and frozen. Open it up and spray lots of penetrating oil/lubricant to the lock mechanism, working it while spraying. You'll have it fixed in no time.

Re: Door opens from inside but not from outside

Unless the door handle is loose because the bolt is missing, I don't think the bolt is the problem.....bolt should be lodged somewhere in the bottom of the door...

Agree with 82Stang....if there is a plastic adjuster on the linkage, it could have slipped.....just pull up hard on the rod between the handle and the latch...if it then opens, and there is no adjuster, give the linkage a little bend(thus shortening it)......

If pulling up on the rod does not release the latch, then it's the latch...as stated, you can try using penetrant on the latch.....

Re: Door opens from inside but not from outside

Excellent! Actually as I put it "together" to close it for the evening, it began working again (with good force). I hope it just needs a little lubricant to get working again but if I'm able to try it with the door closed, I'll give the rod a tug.
