'98 Sub Trottle Cable Broke
'98 K2500 Sub 7.4.
Wife was accelerating onto the freeway coming out of Reno. Got up to speed and let off the gas and nothing happened. Stuck @ 65. She blipped it once and now she's @ 70!! She was able to get off the freeway while hard on the brakes and get it shut down. She called me and I'm on my way. I was thinking on the way there that it had to be the Cruise going nuts?? Got there and pulled the lid off and the throttle was stuck 1/3-1/2 open and it wasn't the Cruise. Loaded all the groceries into the Dodge and sent her home (she was a nervous wreck). I gave her all kinds of credit & hugs for getting it stopped in a safe place. Anyway, I very carefully nursed it home (another 45 miles) as the throttle was rougher than a cob . What I found was the sheath had busted just before it goes into the firewall and the cable did not like that at all!! The routing of the cable had it at almost a 90* bend there and that is the reason it broke. Put the new GM cable in it today and routed it so hopefully that won't happen again. So the reason for this post is a heads-up to check your throttle cable routing next time your under the hood!! Also looks like I'll be doing a brake job soon!! Best to you all..............Steve
