Wrong lug nuts on OEM wheels

Hey everyone,

It's my first time on this forum so please let me know if I'm using the wrong thread. I also know very little about cars. My story is this: a week ago I was driving along and I heard a strange vibrating noise under the front of my 1997 Rav4. I got it checked out at a random shop and they told me that I had the wrong lug nuts on my wheels and that they were all loose! The Toyota OEM wheels take "mag seat" lug nuts and the ones I had on there were "acorn seat" lug nuts. In the two years I've had this car I've changed the tires in Jul 2012 and got the tires rotated in Jul 2013. I only started hearing the vibration in Nov 2013. My questions is: Is it possible that the last shop that rotated my tires (Jul 2012) put the wrong lug nuts? Would I have not heard this vibration sound sooner? I'm just trying to trace back to the shop that put on the wrong nuts. Could it of happened when I got my tires replaced?

Thanks in advance

Re: Wrong lug nuts on OEM wheels

That would be a possibility however getting any one to fess up will be hard , Did you bye the Rav 4 new?.......Was that your 1st set of tires you put on?.......Did you bye the new set of tires from the same place you had them rotated ?........Now the question is can you get oem nuts?.......Are the seats on rims now bad?........Will you have to buy new rims/nuts to be safe?.......

Re: Wrong lug nuts on OEM wheels

Thanks for your reply Rustydogy. I didn't buy the Rav4 new. Yes that was the first set of tires I bought. And no, I didn't buy the tires from the same place I got them rotated. I agree, getting anyone to admit they did it will be difficult.
