I have a 99 Town car and have problems starting when it is cold (under 20 degrees)
The engine cranks If I jump it it will start after about 30 cranks then it runs fine. Looks like a lot of carbon being blown out the tail pipe. When it is warmed up it starts fine and runs fine, just won't start early in the morning when it is 10 degrees outside. Any ideas would help Thanks |

Re: 99 Town car no start when cold
Can you keep it in a heated garage? Ever used a block heater? How long since a tune-up? Are there any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.
You shouldn't have to jump it to start. If the battery is down, get it charged up or replace it. When the problem is ongoing, check for spark at the plugs. Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. You could try cycling the key several times before you crank it, to see if it helps? |

Re: 99 Town car no start when cold
It has spark. I replaced the Coolant temp sensor ( actually the head temp sensor because my 4.6L does not have a traditional ECT) but it still acts the same.
Not sure about the fuel pressure. I'll try cycling the key a few times before starting. |

tried cycling the key a few times. still no start. Guy at O'reilly suggested replacing the fuel temp sensor. dealer said my car would only have one if it was a diesal. it is fuel injected. He suggested the fuel pressure regulator. That costs $111.
anyone have a suggestion? |

replaced the idle air control valve. That fixed it
