dead stop...MUCH...the auto desnt launch nearly as hard as you can with a stick, but from a roll they are a little closer, but the advatage still goes to the stick

I have driven both the auto and stick for the '04

The auto is like driving a slug around or a Yugo. It takes forever for the car to get moving. Since I have an '02 stick the '04 was the same and felt good.

Auto's are for wussies anyways get the manual

If you want to enjoy the car's performance, get a stick shift, if you're not concerned, then I guess you can get the auto.

A stick shift is only as good as the person doing the gear shifts, any monkey can drive a slush box.

I was wondering how much the manual trans. option costs. Hopefully I will take a trip to the dealer and take a look at the shipment of 04's they got.

Option? The manual is considered standard, the automatic transmission costs more.
You can look on www.subaru.com and see the cost, dealer prices are pretty much in line with the Subaru pricing.

I don't see why you would go to the automatic, unless you don't know how to drive a stick... But I guess it is just better for some people who drive for necessity, not to enjoy it.

It is pointless to get a WRX, which is so dependent on engine RPM's for power, and being so driver oriented, to get an automatic. The manual makes the driving experience much more rewarding, and really brings any car to life.

I would suggest you learn to drive a stick, then, once you get good at it, you will see why enthusiasts tout the virtue of manuals

Yes, manuals are great. My car has the classic Hurst 4-speed. But my point was that people that don't drive to enjoy it, they drive because they have to, would have no need for the manual. But if you don't drive for fun, then I guess you don't buy the WRX.

get a manual, right after that, sell the tranny and get the ty-85 tranny ( STi ) it should be a cheap part once STi hits the dealership.
my first gear and forth gear synchro are gone. it only has 38*** km on it. I have more than 300 at the wheel, but I drive like a granpa..... ( no clutch dump, nor powershift, barely downshift..)
