Revell 2010 Ford Shelby GT500

My wife came back home earlier this year with the following flyer:

Being, that I am a huge fan of modern muscle cars, I entered the contest with the Revell 2010 Ford Shelby GT 500. The color scheme is the Gulf one. I originally wanted to go with a complete racing livery (racing numbers and Gulf sponsors). I even bought a decal sheet, but then I figured the car looked pretty cool with just the two tone paint.

I experimented quite a few new techniques on this model and used extensively my airbrush on it. I have to say I love the feel of the airbrush and it makes quite a difference on the final product. I also tried a carbon effect on the mirrors which was so much faster than actual decals.

The model is built pretty much out of the box except for Pegasus wheels and a lowered suspension.

Overall I am pretty happy with the result although there are a few flaws. The biggest one being the bad fit of the front bumper with the body and hood. I also lacked some time to try and fix it. I have to say that I entered the pictures at the very last minute and it was a real challenge for me to finish the model on time.

Here are the pictures:

The model was a winner in my category which came as a great surprise:

I want to thank my wife for pushing me to enter the contest and Revell for making cool models and great contests.

Your comments and criticism are welcome!

I agree with your decision to stick with the basic scheme rather than full race livery. Looks great as is.

Besides the trophy, Revell sent me 12 plastic models (my wife was so happy to see the big box delivered ) and some cool goodies like a jacket, T-shirt, gift card, a few stickers. That was just awesome.

Thank you very much Bob!

Your comment means a lot to me as I have been following your publications for a few years, trying to improve my skills with your tips. I especially like the silly putty masking one, it works great.

I still have to work on the gluing technique as I did not find a proper solution yet. The Testor glue (red tube) is a bit messy but remains the best I found. I recently tried the Tamiya liquid cement but it has a tendency to ruin my paintjobs.
